Head coach Kim Norman has released the 2009 schedule for the Westminster women’s volleyball team. The Griffins will once again play one of the tougher non-conference schedules in the country. They have also mixed in a trip to Hawaii for two matches against NCAA DII opponents from the Pac West Conference.

Westminster women’s volleyball coach Kim Norman has announced that five players will be joining the team for the 2009 season. Megan Evans, Stephanie Jones, Talita Ramos Kresser, Ashley Marchant, and Jessica Schmidt have all signed a NAIA letter of intent to join the Westminster volleyball program in the fall.

Westminster volleyball player Katie McLintock is one of thirteen student-athletes that have been selected to represent the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in a partnership with the American Red Cross. The 2009-2010 Red Cross/NAIA Youth Leadership Program is now in its third year, and will inspire, motivate and create a new and diverse generation of Red Cross volunteers and leaders through exemplifying the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program.

The 2008 Westminster women’s volleyball season was a tough one for the Griffins. They finished the year just 9-17 overall, but went 8-6 in Frontier Conference action. The Griffins faced a ranked opponent in nine matches during the season, including five times against a team ranked in the top 10.

Frontier Conference Commissioner Mike Walker announced the 2008 Volleyball All-Conference team, as well as the individual all-conference awards. Westminster placed two players on either the first or second team. Junior Alison Culp received first-team recognition while sophomore Leigha Dangerfield was named to the second team.

The Carroll College women's volleyball team used that combination to sweep Westminster 25-16, 25-21, 25-21 in the final match on Friday in the opening round of the Bank of Whitman Frontier Conference Volleyball Tournament at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center.

Westminster played the closest 3-set match possible in claiming a 3-0 sweep of Carroll on Friday night. Westminster won by scores of 28-26, 25-23, 25-23 to improve to 9-16 on the season and finish 8-6 in the Frontier Conference. They now sit and wait for the regular season to conclude, but likely will finish as the fourth seed for next weekend’s conference tournament.
